ダルマ説明

サイズは大中小の3種類 / Daruma dolls are available in three sizes: small, medium and large

Daruma’s eyebrows are inspired by a traditional Japanese bird, the crane.
Since olden times, cranes are believed to live for 1000 years. They are known as auspicious birds which represent longevity as well as monogamy. Crane couples are said to mate for life, loving each other and continuing on their life journey together. As the crane’s cry can resonate and be heard from long distances, the Japanese see them as birds able to reach the heavens and thus are known as lucky symbols.
Gold and red eyes:
The gold colour is seen to bring harmony and luck to finances, as well as gold being the colour of victory. The red colour warns off evil spirits and acts as a protective charm against disease and sickness.
Daruma’s cheek whiskers are inspired by turtles:
In the traditional Japanese folk tale, Urashima Taro, turtles were messengers of the dragon king.

They are also known as messengers of Horaisan, a place of perpetual youth and longevity for mountain hermits, in addition to being auspicious animals in ancient China.
In Japan, turtles are believed to live for 10,000 years and like cranes, represent longevity. They are auspicious animals which are highly respected. Furthermore, the hexagon patterns on the shells of turtles are often lucky omen motifs.
Daruma’s beard is inspired by pine trees, the circles around the eyes by bamboo and nostrils by plums.

The methods used to sculpt the dolls are similar to those used in manufacturing air craft and automobile parts.
Small & Medium Darumas: RTM process (resin transfer moulding)
Large Daruma: Va-RTM process (vacuum assisted resin transfer moulding)
These methods are very time consuming as they require hand-forming the carbon into the moulds and hardening them with a vacuum at a temperature of 140 degrees celsius. For this reason production of these items is limited to 10 small items per month, 5 medium items per month and 2 large items per month.
